About Yashar Survival Academy

Yashar Survival Academy exists to make outdoor skills understandable, reliable, and usable when it matters most. Founded by survival instructor Yashar Mousavand, the Academy brings together field-tested techniques and evidence-based guidance to build real competence in the backcountry and in austere environments. We teach skills as a system—preparation, prevention, and response—so that students can think clearly, act safely, and adapt to changing conditions.

Instruction covers core domains of wilderness self-reliance: map reading, compass and terrain navigation, shelter building, fire craft in varied weather, water procurement and purification, practical knots and tools, basic first aid and casualty care until help arrives, risk assessment, and trip planning. Each topic is taught through scenario-based practice, not memorization, with clear decision frameworks that students can recall under stress. We emphasize calm problem-solving, conservation of energy, and small choices that prevent big emergencies.

Our approach is inclusive and progressive. Beginners build foundations without jargon; experienced students pressure-test their habits and refine technique. Safety is our first principle. We teach minimal-impact travel and “leave no trace” ethics, attention to local ecology, and respect for legal and cultural boundaries. Every course is designed for real constraints—limited time, limited gear, imperfect weather—so graduates know what actually works outside the classroom.

Learning doesn’t stop when a course ends. The Academy publishes guides, checklists, case studies, and after-action reviews to help students keep skills fresh. We encourage a culture of documentation and continuous improvement: what was planned, what actually happened, what changed our decisions, and what we would do differently next time. This mindset—honest, practical, and humble—is the heart of safe outdoor practice.

Yashar Survival Academy welcomes collaboration with fellow instructors, medics, and researchers who share our commitment to clarity, accuracy, and hands-on training. Whether your goal is a first day hike with more confidence or a multi-day expedition with a team, our mission is the same: give you the knowledge, judgment, and repeatable skills to prevent problems when possible, manage them when necessary, and return home safely.
